The folks at Queen City Bookstore love the annual Free Comic Book Day.

In brief, Free Comic Book Day is the annual holiday that celebrates Comics Culture. Most comic book specialty shops across the US (and around the world) give away comic books absolutely free on that day. Free Comic Book Day is usually held the on first Saturday in May every year.

This year, we are holding a FREE COMIC BOOK DAY on Saturday, May 4th!

That’s right, the biggest day in the comic book hobby is back again! Free Comic Book Day is happening in 2022 and the big date is SATURDAY, MAY 4. 12:00 am to 5:00 pm. Stop by  the store and enjoy the big festival. See you all on May 6!!!

We’ll be featuring talented Comic Book creators, too.  Meet local and national artists & writers on the biggest day in the comic book hobby.

Not every comic book shop participates on Free Comic Book Day. However, Queen City Bookstore is committed to supporting nascent comic book readers and rewarding longtime fans. We go full out for FCBD, finding additional prizes and giveaways, plus putting large portions of our inventory of comics, graphic novels, toys and related products on sale.

The first Free Comic Book Day event was held back in 2002. Since then, thousands of shops around the world have given away millions of free comics to fans. We’re proud of our participation with FCBD , believing that the hobby of collecting comics encourages the next generation of readers and thinkers.

Comic books are an original American art form, created in the early days of the 20th century. They are fun to read, featuring a wide range of compelling story lines that have inspired generations of readers. Without a doubt, Queen City Bookstore thinks that’s worth celebrating.

Notably, the books given away are newly published FCBD books. We’re not just handing out comics from our large stock of back issues (although we do that too). Each year, probably between 20-40 FCBD comics are released, most of them featuring new stories and sometimes new directions for publishers. Each comic cover features the Free Comic Book Day banner across the top. DC and Marvel Comics have routinely featured their biggest heroes, like The Avengers and Justice League, every year.
